My first 3 years in education started in Norwalk Iowa. I have been working for the DMPS starting the school year 2003-2004 as a Special Ed behavior paraeducator, switching to Office Manager in April 2017. I find great joy and satisfaction working for the families and staff of Jackson Elementary.

I have two older sisters and three step-brothers. I live with my longtime girlfriend Sarah and our dog, Rueben. My name is Christal Cataldo and I am excited to be joining the staff at Hanawalt School! I have been working in the DMPS Assistive Technology and Focus programs for the past two and a half years. Before that I spent six years as a school librarian. I love traveling and spending time with my husband and two daughters. I am from the Southside of Des Moines.

I coordinate college and community partners for Findley and maintains the foundation’s College Savings Account program for Findley scholars. From 2006-2015, I worked asacademic advisor in the DMPS for middle and high school students at Moulton, Hiatt, Meredith, Hoover and Roosevelt. DMPS educates more ELL students than the total number of students enrolled at 96% of Iowa districts. Counselor. I am happy to introduce myself as the school counselor at Greenwood. I received my teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa. While teaching in Ames, I earned my Masters degree in School Counseling at Iowa State University. This is my 26th year working as a school counselor for DMPS and my sixth year at Greenwood. I am here to support family, staff and classroom activities–meeting needs and providing information, comfort and opportunities.
